Every car needs maintenance, but some maintenance doesn't require a professional's helping hand. Replacing your windshield wiper blades is one of those occasions.

No matter what car, truck or SUV you drive, in Oklahoma weather, you need a reliable pair of wiper blades. Nothing is more nerve racking than driving down an Oklahoma City highway at 25 mph because you can't see in a downpour. While the weather is nice and slowly getting cooler, it is a great time to take 15 minutes to replace those blades.

First, you need to get the right pair.
The easiest way to ensure you have the perfect pair of wiper blades is to walk into your local auto store and plug your car's information into one of the stores knowledgable wiper blade kiosks. They look like so:

With just the make, model and year, you can figure out the blade size you need. If the kiosk is a bit confusing (which they often can be) you can always ask one of the store's staff members. Wiper blades are often inexpensive. You should be able to replace the blades for a total cost of less than $45. Get your proper pair and you're ready to go!

Secondly, take off the old ones:
Typically, wiper blades just pull off. Bring your blade in an upright position, away from the windshield. Wiper Blades vary by band and model, but it is common for each blade has a small piece or lever that holds the blade in place. Push down on the on the underside of that securing piece to release the blade. Then, pull back on the base of the blade with a hand on either side of the connecting piece. While you are pulling back on the base of the blade, push it to the side to release the blade from its holder.

Here is an example:

Finally, put your new wiper blades on:
To put on the new blade, simply slide your car's wiper hook around the blades connector. Then, pull the blade securely until you hear or feel a small click, indicating that the blade is fastened to the hook.

Tah-Dah!
Your newly spent money is now safely placed on your car. You're on the road to safe driving! Remember, for your used car, truck or SUV, it is recommended to change the windshield wipers every six months to a year. That should be an easy task now that you are a wiper changing expert!
